Hash Generator

Generate SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 hashes - Web Crypto API, fully client-side

Hash Generator

What this tool does

Generates SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 cryptographic hashes for any text input. Runs entirely in your browser via the Web Crypto API - your data never leaves your device.

Who it's for: Developers verifying file integrity, security engineers computing checksums, and anyone comparing hashes from signed downloads.

When to use

  • •Verify that a downloaded file matches the publisher's advertised SHA-256 hash.
  • •Produce a stable fingerprint of a string for deduplication or caching keys.
  • •Generate hashes for password storage (combined with a proper KDF like bcrypt or Argon2).
  • •Compare two strings by hash to detect tampering.

How it works

  1. 1Type or paste text into the input box.
  2. 2All 4 hashes are computed locally by the Web Crypto API.
  3. 3Results display as hex strings - click Copy to use them.
  4. 4Nothing is sent to any server; close the tab and the data is gone.

Tips

  • •SHA-1 is cryptographically broken - use it only for non-security checksums.
  • •For password hashing, use bcrypt/scrypt/Argon2, NOT plain SHA.
  • •The same input always produces the same hash - tiny changes produce wildly different outputs.
